Ristorante Il Normanno

Overview

Ristorante Il Normanno is a charming and authentic dining experience nestled in the heart of Altavilla Silentina, a picturesque town in the province of Salerno, Italy. Located at Piazza Umberto I, 84045, this family-owned restaurant has built a loyal following thanks to its blend of traditional Italian cuisine, exceptional service, and a welcoming atmosphere that captures the essence of southern Italy.

Walking into Ristorante Il Normanno, you'll immediately be struck by the warm, rustic ambiance, which pairs beautifully with the hearty dishes served here. The interior features wooden tables, cozy lighting, and a well-curated selection of Italian wines. It's the kind of place where locals and tourists alike come to savor a good meal and share laughter over a bottle of wine.

One of the highlights of dining here is the menu. Drawing inspiration from the region's rich culinary heritage, Ristorante Il Normanno offers an array of dishes that are both comforting and flavorful. The pasta, made fresh daily, is a crowd favorite. Dishes like "tagliatelle al tartufo" (tagliatelle with truffle) or "lasagna napoletana" showcase the chef's ability to transform simple ingredients into something extraordinary.

If you're in the mood for something lighter, the antipasti selection won’t disappoint. Freshly made bruschetta, melanzane alla parmigiana (eggplant Parmesan), and a selection of cured meats and cheeses offer a true taste of southern Italy’s culinary roots. Pairing these starters with a crisp glass of local white wine makes for a perfect beginning to any meal.

For those who prefer seafood, Ristorante Il Normanno delivers an exceptional choice. The "spaghetti alle vongole" (spaghetti with clams) is a standout dish, with tender pasta and a delicate garlic and olive oil sauce. You’ll also find dishes like "frittura di pesce" (fried mixed seafood), served with a side of lemon to balance the rich flavors, a perfect choice for anyone wanting to sample the freshest seafood the area has to offer.

Not to be overlooked is the wood-fired pizza that has become a signature of the restaurant. The crust is perfectly crispy with just the right amount of chew, while the toppings range from classic Margherita to more inventive options like "pizza con salsiccia e friarielli" (pizza with sausage and wild broccoli). Every bite brings out the delicious flavors of fresh, local ingredients.

The dessert menu is another reason why Ristorante Il Normanno is worth the visit. End your meal on a sweet note with traditional Italian sweets like "tiramisu" or "pastiera napoletana" (a Neapolitan ricotta pie). Each dessert is homemade, offering a fresh, comforting finish to the meal.

What sets this restaurant apart, however, is its dedication to providing a personalized dining experience. The staff is warm and attentive, often recommending wine pairings or offering insights into the dishes for those unfamiliar with southern Italian cuisine. It’s clear that the owners take great pride in their work, and it shows in the food and service.

In terms of location, Ristorante Il Normanno is easy to find at Piazza Umberto I, right in the center of Altavilla Silentina. This location offers a perfect base to explore the surrounding area, whether you’re taking a stroll through the town’s charming streets or enjoying the scenic views of the Salerno coast.

Wonderful discovery during my β€˜return’ to Altavilla Silentina remembering my father who was badly wounded in September 1943 on Hill 424. Food great and the daughter of the hosts took my wife and I to the top of Hill 424. Unforgettable experience and delightful restaurant food and experience. Dr. Whitman

We had an antipasto that was big enough for a whole meal. We had a mixed charcuterie plate with local cheeses and a vegetable sampler. Everything was amazing and had that flavor that only comes from local products. Signore Gerardo then drove with us to show a part of the old town. It will be a wonderful memory to go with a wonderful meal. Thank you.

Lovely restaurant. The hosts were too friendly and kind .The food was tasty as homemade and huge quantity is served. Though we were 5 people ,we ordered 3 portions but couldn't finish the food. The price is too low like spaghetti for 7 euros and antipasti for 6 euros. To find the location is a bit tricky but is situated in a Belvedere place.

Opened early just for us, adorable couple running a restaurant in a beautiful location. Bread was some of the best I've had in my life. Was the best restaurant we've tried in Italy so far. Would recommend.
